LameBrain Source Code Release

LameBrain iconI’ve uploaded the source code for LameBrain, my LAME-based mp3 encoder for OS X.

It’s been (ugh) nearly 4 years since LameBrain was updated. It was an enjoyable project, but I simply lost interest: I didn’t use the program myself, moving to encoding most of my music with the iTunes AAC encoder. I also had pushed the app feature wise as far as I ever intended.

Still, people continue to search for and download LameBrain every day from this site. It evidently scratches an itch for some people, and that’s a source of pride for me. So I’d hate to just sit on the program and not give others an opportunity to run with it. I think there are some valuable bits in the horribly structured code I wrote back then, and maybe someone with more drive than me will build on what’s here.

Thanks to everyone who has used LameBrain, and especially to the folks who donated money for its development. It’s been a lot of fun.

New Builds of SCPlugin Available, Including Universal Binaries

SCPlugin screenshotIt appears that development of SCPlugin has resumed, despite the fact that the news page has not been updated in over two years. The project’s Documents & Files page offers downloads of versions as new as December 9, 2006, including an “experimental” Universal Binary build of SCPlugin. I haven’t had a chance to test this yet, but this is certainly encouraging.

SCPlugin binary for Intel Macs

Update: official universal builds are now available.

Raf. wrote it to let me know that he’s created an Intel binary of SCPlugin, the Finder plugin that enables SVN access

Hi Ed, I’ve compiled an Intel version of the plugin (I noticed some comments on your blog requesting Intel versions) Please find the file at: http://studiofunk.com.au/downloads/SCPlugin-Intel.zip

I’ve also mirrored the file locally.

Installing a Debian VM using Parallels

Running Debian in Parallels Desktop

So… I can set up multiple server environments to simulate different client setups in VMs using Parallels.  Hot.

Yojimbo stores ALMOST anything

So lots of people are pooping their pants over Yojimbo, this new personal info organization app from BareBones. I’ve started using it, and it is pretty cool, but I’ve run into a bit of an issue: it doesn’t like OmniOutliner 2 files. Try to drag one in, and you get no love. I guess this is what they mean by the following:

Store almost anything in Yojimbo—text, rich text, images, PDFs, even serial numbers and passwords

(my emphasis)

Some may wonder why I’m still running OO v2 when I think OmniGroup has had v3.5 out for about a hundred years. That’s because I’m lazy, and I actually like v2 a bit better - it’s simpler, and I like the way it looks. Probably it’s just inertia, though, and I’d like v3 better if I just used it.
